Watercolours and Gouache (opaque watercolour) feature heavily in my artworks because they are mediums that are very transportable and above all, enjoyable to paint with.
Over the years much of my watercolour work has been getting smaller and this is very evident in some of my underwater trout images on this site.
Because a lot of my work is reproduced in books and magazines, I now paint almost exclusively on heavy, 640 gsm hot-pressed watercolour paper for its smooth, hard surface that allows me to achieve the level of detail required for reproduction, without the need to pre-stretch the paper.
A number of trout fly paintings are shown on this site for display purposes. Commissions are accepted for illustrating particular flies or other subjects at very reasonable prices. Please contact me for details.
